What is Detox Therapy?
Exposure
People are exposed to toxic heavy metals from a variety of sources including air pollution, drinking water pollution, cosmetics, remnants of the mining industry, dental amalgam (silver fillings), paints, electronics, vaccine preservatives and produce which has been grown in fertilizer that was legally manufactured from industrial toxic waste.
The 3 most abundant heavy metals in the environment are mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb). These toxins are known to infiltrate the body from a variety of sources, easily cross the protective blood-brain barrier, invade cells, and become permanently lodged to proteins, enzymes and nucleic acids; disrupting or altering their functions.
To make matters worse, heavy metals will bio-accumulate in cells (brain, liver, kidneys) by impeding the cells natural detoxification system (glutathione) allowing for the build up of more toxins. Long-term heavy metal exposure can lead to neurological damage and behavioral symptoms resembling those of dementia.

Mercury
Mercury is abundant in seafood and is also found in silver fillings and in a vaccine preservative called Thimerosal. Some scientists believe that humans are exposed to 10 micrograms of mercury vapor per day from each silver filling. The FDA permits the fixing of 100 million silver fillings a year (CDA) into the mouths of millions of Americans, even though the EPA treats mercury amalgam as an “environmental pollutant” and has set the human exposure limit to .10 micrograms per kilogram of body weight.
Until recently, infants were injected with 100 times the EPA allowable amount of mercury from Thimerosal. Some experts believe that mercury may be related to the growing epidemic of autism, while others believe that autism is just another term for mercury poisoning.

Cadmium
The largest potential sources of cadmium exposure, besides battery and paint factories, are food and cigarette smoke. Cadmium easily binds to soil particles and is absorbed by plants growing in the soil. The average daily intake of cadmium from food sources is estimated to be 30 micrograms.
Toxic waste, which is high in nitrogen and phosphorus as well as heavy metals, is frequently used to manufacture fertilizer. According to the Environmental Working Group, between 1990 and 1995, 270 million pounds of this toxic fertilizer were spread on U.S. farmlands.
Cadmium is a known carcinogen. This year, scientists discovered that cadmium mimics the hormone estrogen and may be linked to elevated rates of breast cancer, prostate cancer and female early onset puberty in the United States.

Lead
Lead is commonly found in paints, soil, drinking water, pottery, industrial waste, mining waste and petroleum products.
Elevated levels of lead have been measured in children suffering from behavioral problems and learning disabilities such as ADD, ADHD, PDD, lowered IQ’s, autism spectrum disorder and bi-polar disorder.
It is common knowledge that the fluoride used to fluoridate drinking water, greatly increases the absorption of lead. High levels of anti-social behavior and crime can be directly correlated to amount of drinking water fluoridation.

Who is at risk
People who:
Smoke, possess silver fillings, follow diets high in seafood or heavy metal-contaminated produce, tend to drink only tap water, have worked around paints or soils, have worked in electronics manufacturing or petroleum processing.
